A crocodile entered a residential house in India’s eastern state of Odisha, officials said Thursday.
The 12-feet long crocodile, weighing 500 kg, was found inside the house of Dasharath Madkami in Malkangiri district, about 650 km southwest of Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha.
“It seems the crocodile entered the house of Madkami during night as he told us he found the animal only after strange sound woke him up at around 3:00. a.m. (local time),” a wildlife department official said.
Following the detection of reptile, the frightened Madkami along with his wife and daughters raised an alarm after which fellow villagers in the vicinity came to his house.
The villagers overpowered the reptile and tied it to a tree.
Reports said the panicked villagers decided to kill the crocodile, but were dissuaded by the headman, who informed the wildlife officials.
The wildlife authorities came and rescued the animal and released it into the Balimela reservoir.
According to officials the crocodile had come from the Satiguda dam.
